Patricia Trujillo
Legal Services Coordinator

|
Mrs. Trujillo began her work in assisting with the provision of legal services to indigent people in Colorado on November 2, 1987. At that time, she started work with the Legal Aid Society of Metropolitan Denver as a receptionist. She left that position on March 24, 1989. During the time that she worked for the Legal Aid Society, she spoke with thousands of persons on the telephone that needed legal assistance but did not have the financial resources to pay for those services. She always treated the callers with dignity and respect. She answered call after call day after day. The callers often had emergencies that they wanted resolved and if was Patricia's role to send them to the proper person or resource. In March 24, 1989, Mrs. Trujillo began work for the Thursday Night Bar Program (TNB), now Metro Volunteer Lawyers (MVL). Her role has been to refer poor persons to volunteer attorneys throughout the Denver metropolitan area. She was involved with the establishment of the Family Law Court Program (FLCP). She was of the first staff members to come to court for the FLCP to assist the volunteer attorneys and the clients. Mrs. Trujillo has referred more people to lawyers than anyone else in the state of Colorado. Last year alone, she handled referral matters for over one thousand MVL applicants whose legal needs included family law, public utilities, housing, bankruptcy, guardianship, wills, taxes, and immigration, among others. |
